The Norbulingka Institute was established in October 1988 and is dedicated to handing down tradition and providing training, education and employment for Tibetans in exile, in an environment which allows community and family values to flourish.

Their durable hand-crafted products are designed and made by Norbulingka’s own artists, carpenters, woodcarvers and sculptors, aiming to reconcile traditional and modern, as well as creating awareness of Tibetan values. Familiar forms found in Tibetan decorative arts are adapted into household items, with the recurring symbols of flowers – symbols of beauty, openness and generosity; dragons – symbols of power, strength and good luck, and nomads – representing traditional nomadic life against the vast Tibetan landscape.
